Manufacturer of the Year (Large Business)

2018 Award Winner - Bosch Australia

Bosch has had a presence in Australia since 1907, opening its first wholly owned subsidiary, Robert Bosch (Australia) Pty Ltd in 1954. The company now employs over 800 people in Victoria. 

In 2016 Bosch inaugurated its new headquarters and technical centre in Clayton. This $40 million development is the single largest investment by the Bosch Group in Australia since 1954.

In 2017, Bosch Australia manufactured 113 million power diodes – all of which were exported to their global customer base in Europe, China, India, North America and South America.

Bosch Australia is continuing to innovate, including building the first self-driving vehicle to be developed in Australia in 2016, and partnering with SwarmFarm to develop the next generation of agricultural robots. 

2017 Award Winner - Sutton Tools

Sutton Tools is celebrating one hundred years of manufacturing in Australia in 2017 and remains family owned and operated. Renowned for their high quality engineering of cutting and power tool accessories and manufacturing over 15,000 individual items ranging over 50 product groups and employing around 380 staff, Sutton Tools maintains a commitment to investment, ensuring its staff, products and manufacturing techniques remain world class.

2016 Award Winner - CSL Behring 

CSL Behring is a global leader in therapies derived from human plasma.  In Broadmeadows, Victoria, CSL Behring operates a purpose built facility which manufactures 15 plasma products from blood donors in Australia and the Asia Pacific. 

In December 2015, a  five year construction and development project at Broadmeadows culminated with the first shipment of a state-of-the-art, highly engineered immunoglobulin product ‘Privigen’ exported to patients in the United States.   

More than 700 employees work at CSL Behring’s Broadmeadows advanced manufacturing facility.  CSL Behring is a subsidiary of CSL Limited – an ASX top ten company and the only advanced manufacturer in the ASX top twenty. 

2015 Award Winner - Hickory Building Systems 

Hickory is a leading construction and manufacturing company with over 20 years’ experience delivering high-density residential and commercial buildings. 

Established in 1991, the family owned business has grown to become Australia’s most prolific apartment builder, consistently topping the HIA Housing 100 for multi-unit construction and making the BRW list of Top 50 Most Innovative Companies.

2014 Award Winner - SRX Global (Australia) Pty Ltd

SRX provides a wide range of Electronic Manufacturing Services (EMS) in diverse markets such as medical, industrial, defence, communications and automotive. 

In addition to electronic manufacturing, SRX offers a range of end-to-end related specialist services including system integration, mechanical assembly, test and prototyping, remedial maintenance and repairs, warehousing and distribution.

2013 Award Winner - Qenos Ltd

As the Australian manufacturer and leading supplier of world class polyethylene, Qenos upgrades the nation’s rich oil and gas reserves by covering these natural resources into high value polymers which are used to create innovative and practical long life products.   The Qenos Technical Centre is Australia’s leading polymer laboratory and is the hub of the company’s product development, quality assurance and technology efforts.

2012 Award Winner - Marand Precision Engineering

Marand's list of achievements include being the only supplier in the world approved to manufacture large finished tools for BAE Military Systems Division in Samlesbury UK and being the global sole source of the engine removal and installation trailer for the world’s first 5th generation stealth fighter.  Marand was also the primary Australian company to work with Boeing Aerostructures Australia on the design, manufacture and integration of its state-of-the art B787 carbon fibre manufacturing facility.

Manufacturer of the Year (Medium Business)

2018 Award Winner - Creature Technology Co.

Founded in 2006 in Melbourne, Creature Technology has built a reputation for manufacturing the most lifelike giant-sized animatronic creatures in the world. Their products include the fearsome King Kong for the new Universal Orlando Resort theme park attraction, Skull Island: Reign of Kong, and the dinosaurs for the blockbuster Jurassic World: The Exhibition international tour. All the animatronic creatures are manufactured in Port Melbourne in a state-of-the-art facility by a team of 75 designers, engineers, sculptural fabricators, metal fabricators, animators, computer programmers, electricians, creatives and project managers.

2017 Award Winner - Major Furnace Australia

Family owned Major Furnace engineers and manufactures medium to large scale furnaces, incinerators and cremators, process ovens and coolers, thermal oxidizers, dust filters and related capital equipment and services. With a significant export record, Major Furnace continues to adapt to the economic conditions of the day and provides their customers with a ‘one-stop-shop’ offering services ranging from concept design through to routine maintenance, component sales and after sales support.

2016 Award Winner -  Thycon Industrial

Thycon is Australia’s leading manufacturer of power quality and conversion solutions for the industrial, resource and commercial sectors.

Since the company’s foundation in 1968, dedication to R&D innovation has enabled the product line to grow steadily in response to technical advances and market needs. Today, it encompasses airfield lighting regulators, high-current rectifiers, inverters, UPS, static frequency converters, power factor correctors, transformers, fault current limiters, and more recently, energy storage and micro-grids.

Thycon’s dedicated customer services include preventive maintenance, 24x7 remedial service, smart monitoring, customer training programs and engineering advisory services.

Thycon’s reputation for robust, long life, quality equipment is well established, with many products still in operation after more than 25 years of service. Our enduring philosophy for state of the art, rugged design has provided an excellent foundation for recent growth into international markets.

2015 Award Winner – GP Graders

Currently, GP Graders stands as the world’s largest supplier of cherry grading and packing machinery. The company invests millions in research and development  leading to scores of new developments each year. GP Graders designs and manufactures all its own machinery, as it provides greater control over quality standards and functionality.   

2014 Award Winner – Future Fibre Technologies 

Future Fibre Technologies (FFT) is a world leader in fibre optic perimeter security and perimeter intrusion detection, using advanced security systems to detect Third Party Interference (TPI) on oil and gas pipelines, and to protect sensitive data communications cables. 

2013 Award Winner - AW Bell

A.W. Bell has transformed from a supplier of simple general engineering castings to a specialist in casting complex shaped parts for demanding applications.  In partnership with the CSIRO, A.W. Bell has developed the ABE casting process using rapid and controlled solidification which delivers cast complex aluminium parts with superior mechanical properties.

2012 Award Winner - Koko Black

Koko Black's is a niche manufacturing business, as it produces its own product from raw ingredients and sells directly through their own retail outlets, online and to corporate clients such as hotels.  Wherever possible Koko Black’s products are hand made using local ingredients.

Manufacturer of the Year (Small Business)

2018 Award Winner - Osteon Medical

Founded by Michael Tuckman in 2008, Osteon Medical is a wholly Australian-owned company based in Clayton, Victoria. 100 per cent of Osteon’s products are manufactured in Victoria. Osteon Medical is fast becoming a world leader in the design and manufacture of dental and facial implant prosthetic products. All of Osteon’s products are digitally designed and precision milled specifically to meet the needs of each patient.

2017 Award Winner - Paarhammer

Ballan based Paarhammer, a family business founded in 1990, manufactures award winning energy efficient double and tripled glazed timber windows and doors. Paarhammer continues to grow and now employs 20 staff. Staff education and community is very important to the company with 35 apprentices trained in house, and two key staff supported to go to Europe to learn to make aluminium clad windows, which Paarhammer now manufacture as an import replacement. The company were the first in Australia to have developed and patented bushfire-resistant windows and doors.

2016 Award Winner - H&H Machine Tools Australia

H&H is a small, innovative engineering company in Melbourne’s north that specialised in the design, engineering, manufacturing and marketing internationally of five axis gantry milling machines.

Unique in Australia, H&H has developed processes that represent an optimal solution for industries in mould/die, defence, aerospace, medical, transport and precision engineering with their high quality standards.

H&H’s focus on customer requirements and working to customer specification has resulted in winning several export contracts for turn-key machining systems used for machining of diverse components such as CAT-scan in medical to composite wings for aircraft.

H&H milling machines are now installed in multiple international locations including Malaysia, China and the United States of America.

2015 Award Winner - Australian Precision Technologies 

Founded in 1992, Australian Precision Technologies (APT) has forged a reputation as a leading provider of simple to highly complex precision components, instruments and assemblies.  Through sophisticated manufacturing processes, APT has developed consistently high quality components for defence, aerospace, transport, rail, water control, resources, medical, mining, security and the automotive industries. 

2014 Award Winner – Thermofilm Australia

Thermofilm Australia is an Australian owned manufacturer, designer and supplier of innovative electric heating products to residential, commercial and institutional markets, both in Australia and around the world.   Thermofilm was established in 1988 to produce heating products utilising a thin film carbon based heating element, hence the name Thermofilm.

2013 Award Winner - Integra Systems

Founded in 1991, Integra Systems is a 100% Australian, family-owned company producing light metal products from its Broadmeadows facility in Melbourne’s suburbs.   Integra’s services include a breadth of engineering services from concept design for new products, detailed mechanical engineering design, design for manufacture, prototyping, product re-engineering as well as manufacFturing services.

2012 Award Winner - Coating and Industrial Technologies (CIT)

The focus of Coating and Industrial Technologies (CIT) is on supplying specialised state-of-the-art high technology systems that are manufactured to the highest standards, are unique and provide application ease, along with the utmost in performance criteria, as evidenced by the Original Equipment world approvals.
