  • The strength of Victoria's carbon expertise

Victoria's strengths in financial services and extensive experience in energy markets underpin Melbourne's growth in carbon services excellence.

Meeting the challenge of climate change has resulted in significant shifts in commercial and government activities, opening up new opportunities for financial and professional services that facilitate carbon abatement and energy efficiency projects.

As Australia's energy and environmental trading hub, Melbourne is home to the majority of industry compliance buyers and the national energy market. Major compliance buyers based in Melbourne include BHP Billiton, Rio Tinto, Amcor and Shell.

Melbourne is also a centre of excellence for specialists providing monitoring, reporting and verifying services, particularly for the National Greenhouse and Energy Reporting Scheme.

Climate Change Authority

Melbourne is home to the Climate Change Authority, an independent body providing advice on national renewable energy target emissions trajectories, the Commonwealth Government's carbon pricing mechanism and the Carbon Farming Initiative.
