The Governor of Victoria, The Hon. Alex Chernov AC QC and the Minister for Employment and Trade, The Hon. Louise Asher presented the 2013 Governor of Victoria Export Awards (GOVEA) at Government House on 9 October 2013, before an impressive gathering of the Victorian export industry.

Now in its 34th year, the GOVEAs are one of the most prestigious business awards in Victoria and reward Victoria’s most successful and innovative exporters.

GP Graders is an Australian export success story following the development of a world’s best product which uses highly sophisticated camera technology to determine the size, shape, colour and quality of cherries. GP Grader’s technology is capable of removing 85 precent of defect grade cherries which allow for increased revenue and reduced costs to cherry producers through removing the requirement for human sorting. GP Graders is the only company worldwide that has this unique technology and has now adapted it to sort other products such as shellfish, mangoes, apples and other fruits.

Optalert has developed the world’s only scientifically-proven real-time operator alertness monitoring system delivering an innovative solution to the very real challenge of driver and operator fatigue. Optalert’s technology delivers real-time data accurately measuring an operator’s alertness level to detect the early onset of drowsiness. It has also been proven to positively change a user’s behaviour and approach to fatigue management. The company have exported products to global leading mining and transport companies across Latin America, Africa, Europe, Canada, Pacific nations and the US.

Murray River Organics is Australia’s largest vertically integrated certified organic grower, processor, packer and marketer of premium, certified organic sultanas, currants, raisins and muscatels. Leveraging Australia’s global reputation as a producer of clean, green food with trusted agricultural systems, Murray River Organics is globally competitive largely due to its vertical integration and recent investments in new vineyards.

RightShip provides the world’s most comprehensive online marine and environmental risk management system. The company has customers in 40 countries, undertakes ship inspections in 114 countries through a global network of contractors and generates 84 per cent of its revenue outside Australia. RightShip also offers an energy efficiency rating alongside its risk rating, to address the 70,000 ships currently in service that contribute over one billion tonnes of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere annually.

Circus Oz is an internationally acclaimed Australian circus company which brings together elements from all of the live performing arts through a multi-skilled ensemble of Australia’s foremost artists, acrobats, performers and musicians. Since its first international tour in 1980, Circus Oz has performed in 26 countries across five continents to over 3.5 million people. Circus Oz creates world class, distinctly Australian work for the national and international stage.

Monash University is the largest University in Victoria with over 63,000 students including 22,000 international students. Ecotech offers a comprehensive package of instrumentation, software, integrated systems and services for ambient air, blast and climate change monitoring applications. The company has built a solid reputation based on superior instrument and system quality and performance. Partnering with leading research institutions has assisted Ecotech to develop and commercialise products for the research market. Ecotech currently exports to China, the Middle East, India, U.S.A., Taiwan, Sweden, South Africa, Mexico and South Korea.

Fairmont Medical Products was established in 1988, with little more than $600 entered the competitive medical device manufacturing market. A quarter of a century later, Fairmont Medical Products employs 90 people and exports to New Zealand, the UK, the Netherlands, Japan, Denmark, Italy and Ireland. Key to Fairmont’s success has been an investment in markets, in people and in research and development to continually deliver innovative and price sensitive devices specific to their customer’s needs.

StarNet Systems is a software development firm which provides a total end to end telecommunications management solution to accommodate all of the functions of a housing and conference operation for residential communities. StarNet’s customer base now spans more than 450 world-wide and includes Stanford University, Harvard University and Harvard Business School, Columbia University, Yale, New York University, University College London, University of Westminster, University of Auckland and the National University of Singapore.

Silver Thomas Hanley are an international architecture health care design practice with a health care project portfolio of over 2000 projects ranging from small, local community projects to large, complex international designs. Projects have been designed, completed or are currently under construction by Silver Thomas Hanley in major international locations including Canada, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, China, New Zealand, the UAE and Barbados.

Worldpoly was the first manufacturer of polyethylene pipe in the Southern Hemisphere and now exports their polyethylene pipe welding equipment to countries as diverse as Germany, Senegal, Bolivia and Vietnam. Worldpoly manufactures machinery in both a joint-venture factory in China and a factory in Melbourne ensures that is able to offer quality and affordable equipment, as well as top-of-the-line Australian made and designed machinery to clients in 96 countries.

Wandin Valley Farms in North East Victoria is a family-owned and managed business with a long history of producing and exporting high quality Victorian fresh cherries. Over the last 25 years they have grown from a small business wholesaling in the Footscray Market to one which now exports all over the world. Their Wandin Valley 'DIAMOND' brand is exported to Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam, Russia, the Middle East and to the United Kingdom.

Profloor Portable Flooring is a manufacturer of portable event flooring, grass protection and temporary roadway systems designed for the outdoor event industry, as well as supplying the construction, military and mining sectors. Profloor has supplied flooring to major international events including the Singapore F1 Grand Prix, the 2008 Beijing Olympics, the 2012 London Olympics and the 2012 Euro Football Tournament, as well as concerts by Pearl Jam and the Rolling Stones.
