Each year the Victorian Government and the Australian Society for Medical Research (ASMR) present the Premier's Award for Health & Medical Research during ASMR Medical Research Week. The Award recognises achievement by Victoria's early career health and medical researchers.

Eligible applicants include PhD students or recently completed postgraduates whose research has or is being undertaken in a Victorian research institution in any field of health or medical research.

Past winners have demonstrated the depth of talent in Victoria’s health and medical research community through work in a variety of fields including muscular dystrophy, organ transplants, tuberculosis, diabetes, cancer research, cochlear implants and genetic research.

The winner and commendees will be announced at a ceremony to be held during Medical Research Week (1-8 June, 2013).
