Nearly two years ago, Scott and Nikki Medwell opened their vegan B&B in a converted dairy outside of Shepparton, They called it Bed and Broccoli.
Neither of them had any small business experience, nor formal training in tourism or hospitality. 'But when we moved up here and saw the empty dairy, it all came together', says Nikki. 'We knew it was going to be home for our B&B'.
Scott set about renovating Bed and Broccoli and Nikki started working on the business.
'I did a lot of activities through the Victorian Government Business Office and the Shepparton Small Business Centre. Things like networking, seminars and short courses', she says.
'Even now I still drop in and get advice or have a chat'.
'We've been pleased to take advice and talk to a lot of people because we have such a unique product - there's been no template to guide us', Nikki adds.
'We've really been encouraged to create our path ourselves'.
