Volgren Australia Pty Ltd

Volgren Australia Pty Ltd commenced bus manufacturing in 1977 and is now the largest company of its kind in Australia having built 300 buses last year - representing 35% of the Australian market.

Whilst the business has grown to accommodate an annual turnover of $75 million, Volgren is still very much a family business, owned by the Grenda family. The company’s Executive Chairman Geoff Grenda still oversees the company with his father – Volgren founder Ken Grenda.

Volgren lead the introduction to Australia of ultra low floor route buses, bolted aluminum bus body structures and bus body electrical multiplexing. The company is willing and able to customize buses to the requirements of local bus operators, such as the configuration of the vehicle.

Clients include Grenda Transit, Kefford Corp and Dyson, all private bus operators with government contracts. The company also exports to Singapore and Hong Kong, as well as supplying bus kits to Malaysia.

Volgren’s manufacturing process is built on a solid foundation of skilled people, continuous improvement of systems and robust supply chains to ensure effective factory planning, low cycle times and on-time delivery to its clients.

The company currently employs 200 people in Victoria and a further 50 people in Western Australia.

Volgren enjoys a history of industrial harmony and a stable working environment, with some staff having worked there since the business started.
