Building Our Industries For The Future: Action Plans for Victorian Industry and Manufacturing is the next step by the Victorian Government to secure a strong future for our industry base so it will continue to deliver sustainable and skilled jobs for Victoria.

Our goal is to position Victoria as:

• a global leader in strategic markets for transforming and enabling industry sectors driven by skills and technology such as advanced manufacturing, biotechnology, information and communications technology (ICT) and financial, professional and technical services
• a supplier of high value-added goods and services such as education, tourism and clean high quality food and beverage products based on our unique and competitive advantages

To deliver on this goal the Victorian Government has an overarching industry development strategy that is:

• delivering broad  economic reforms and business programs to boost competitiveness
• investing in the skills and innovation capabilities we will need for the future
• stimulate the growth of more globally competitive and sustainable industries and companies

The major statements Innovation: Victoria's Future and Securing Jobs for Your Future, both released in August 2008, are the most recent steps in delivering this overall strategy. Now they are followed by Building Our Industries For The Future: Action Plans for Victorian Industry and Manufacturing which focuses on specific sectors and industry issues central to Victoria's future.

Building Our Industries For The Future: Action Plans for Victorian Industry and Manufacturing has been developed in response to a rapidly changing global economy and in the context of significant recent developments in the national economic and industry policy framework.

The Statement provides an overview of the Victorian Government's current and planned economic reforms, programs and strategies to build a more competitive business environment.  It also describes how, using the resources and leverage available to a State Government, we are providing on-the-ground support for the growth of our core and emerging manufacturing and services industries.

Building Our Industries For The Future: Action Plans for Victorian Industry and Manufacturing brings together $207 million in programs and projects to help Victorian industry turn challenges like increasingly competitive global markets and climate change into new opportunities for growth and jobs.

The Statement delivers:

• $122.7 million for a Manufacturing Action Plan to keep building a modern manufacturing sector driven by skills and technology
• $97.2 million for a Services Action Plan to strengthen service sectors which enable overall industry growth and where Victoria has an internationally competitive edge
• $24.8 million for a Global Markets Action Plan to help more Victorian companies join global supply chains and enter international markets
