Public Sector Employment
The role of the Public Sector Unit in Industrial Relations Victoria (IRV) is to support:
- the achievement of budgetary sustainable or cost-beneficial agreements which support strategic workforce and service delivery reform
- cooperative workplace relations
- high performing and innovative public sector workplaces
- the resolution of industrial aspects of major change initiatives
- the development of relevant government industrial policies
In relation to this, Industrial Relations Victoria has the following role and responsibilities:
- providing advice to the Minister for Industrial Relations and government on the development and implementation of public sector industrial relations policies consistent with government's overall objectives
- coordinating, monitoring and assisting departmental and agency compliance with these policies
- advising, educating and informing departments and agencies about relevant government policies, progressive and innovative work organisation, and industrial relations practices based on a partnership approach
- advising and assisting departments and agencies to negotiate progressive enterprise agreements consistent with government policy
- coordinating or leading public sector- or public service-wide negotiations, as well as court and tribunal hearings
