The Victorian Government recognises this fact and has implemented a number of initiatives aimed at developing Victoria’s human resources in STI:

New and emerging industries

Examines the skills and human resource requirements of new and emerging industries in advanced manufacturing, nanotechnology and bioinformatics.

Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP)
UROP is a scheme designed to give undergraduate students an early opportunity to experience real life in a research laboratory and gain insight into careers in biomedical research.

Commercialisation and entrepreneur skills 

Equips Victorians with the commercialisation and entrepreneur skills necessary to turn scientific research into commercial products, processes and services.

YAA Biotechnology Entrepreneur Program
The program takes participants through the stages of a concentrated business cycle and is targeted at students studying biotechnology, bioinformatics, nanotechnology, Biomedical science, food & agricultural technology, bioengineering, medicine and life sciences. Cross-disciplinary students from IT, Law, Business & Economics who have an interest in biotechnology are also encouraged to apply.


RMIT Business Lecture Series
Promotes innovation in the Victorian business and academic communities. Provides access to the ideas and expertise of Australians who've made significant contributions to innovation in a variety of industries overseas and locally.
